Ready to Burn – Ready to go!

As a local and national provider of solid fuel, we are now stocking solid fuel and woodfuel that has been certified as `Ready to Burn` these fuels meet the new legal requirements that came into force from 1 May 2021 in England through The Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020.

The `Ready to Burn` scheme, administered by Woodsure, the DEFRA appointed Certification Body, is designed to help consumers identify fuels that are compliant with the new legislation.  It is all about traceability – from manufacturing right through to the end user which gives you as a customer the confidence knowing that you have purchased a fully approved product.

If you live in England you can only use the new approved smokeless fuels.

Swainson & Cowins customers and wholesale suppliers can be confident that the solid fuel being sold as `Ready to Burn` has its own unique Ready to Burn certification number alongside the supplier’s name and logo.

Household Coal

The legislation is different in that we will only be allowed to deliver direct to customer’s houses after 1st May 2021. These will not be available at any of our wholesale outlets in England. After 1st May all household coal will either need to be tipped into your bunker or if you get plastics delivered these will need to be split open at your premises. We are not allowed to leave plastic bags unopened after the 1st of May. We expect to be able to continue to deliver household coal in England until 2023.

Manufactured solid fuels (Smokeless Ovals)

Swainson & Cowins customers and wholesale suppliers within England can be confident that the Manufactured solid fuel being sold as `ready to burn` has its own unique Ready to Burn certification number alongside the supplier’s name and logo.

Wood

The rules for wood depend on the amount of wood sold. Wood sold in volumes under 2 cubic metres must be certified as ‘Ready to Burn’. The Ready to Burn certification number alongside the supplier’s name and logo must be displayed and confirmation the fuel has a moisture content of 20% or less. Customers can be confident that all fuel wood sold by Pearsons of Duns carry this accreditation and is Kiln Dried to below a moisture content of 20%.
